How To Add URL Redirects

URL redirects, or "vanity URLs," can be a valuable way to create a short URL to use in the promotion of your website content.

Redirects can be used in three main ways:

  1. Redirect an old/missing page URL that is showing up in search engines to a new page
  2. Create a "vanity URL" that makes it easier to share, i.e. mychurch.com/sermons/mary-did-you-really-know can become mychurch.com/christmas22
  3. Direct visitors to a third-party site from a link in your navigation menu

Here is how you can set those up:

  1. Log in and go to the Settings area of your Admin Menu
  2. Click on the Website Tab
  3. Click on the "URL Redirects" sub-tab

  4. Click the "Add Redirect" button
  5. In the left field enter the URL path (everything after the first /slash) of the page that you want to redirect or choose a path for your "vanity URL"

  6. In the field on the right, enter the URL to which you would like it to redirect

  7. Click Save, and you're done!

FAQS & TROUBLESHOOTING

  • Why I am getting a "404 Not Found" error message when I click my website menu item? This error message indicates that the link is broken. Please go back into the URL Redirect area (in the website's Settings), and verify the forwarding URL. You may need to update the URL in the "Forwards To" cell.
